Welcome to Esperanza!
[edit]Welcome, Starrycupz, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.
Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. You can support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.
In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.
If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact our administrator general Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Plant categories
[edit]Hi, I appreciate your energy in filling up the garden plants and flowers categories, but it's probably a lost cause, since there are many thousands of plants grown in gardens, and by definition there are at least a quarter-million flowering plants - category inclusion decisions based on the size or showiness of the flowers is probably too subjective to be worthwile (some of the prettiest wildflowers out here in the desert are only a centimeter across, for instance). Stan 20:23, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I have to agree with Stan. There are thousands of genera, and hundreds of thousands of species and cultivars, of plants. Wikipedia is an international encyclopedia, which means that just about any plant might be a "garden plant" somewhere in the world, and as Stan says, the criteria are simply too subjective. Aside from the category being too broad to be useful in the first place, using your own personal criteria of "plant I have grown myself" or "common garden plants here in the UK" to add to such a category is probably not going to be helpful to the majority of Wikipedia users. MrDarwin 21:52, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with Stan and MrDarwin, for all the reasons mentioned. In addition, categories tend to accumulate at the end of articles, so it's important that they be useful.--Curtis Clark 04:46, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Age category
[edit]Hello! If you are receiving this message, that means that your user page is in a specific year category. Per a recent user-category per deletion, all specific year categories are to be deleted. If you wish to continue using year categories, you have two options:
- Using an age group category, such as Category:Wikipedians in their 30s
- Using a decade category, such as Category:Wikipedians born in the 1970s.
If you wish, you may do both. Hopefully, this change in categorization will be quick and painless. Happy editing! --An automated message from MessedRobot 12:42, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

thanks :)
[edit]Thank you for the welcome. I've actually been a long-time member, just changed accounts (I actually shared one with my S.O. which I guess is probably frowned upon) but this one is my own. I'll read your links anyway and I hope I can add some kind of valuable input to the Wiki.
Taking the mickey

Removal of category from your userpage
[edit]Hi. In enacting consensus from User categories for discussion, I have removed the category Category:Wikipedians interested in books from your userpage. It was determined in that deletion debate that this category should be depopulated of individuals, but kept as a parent category. If you wish to display a category reflecting your interest in books, please consider one of the specific sub-categories under its umbrella. Thanks, and please excuse the necessary editing of your user page! ----Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:49, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. Thanks for your message. I've copied it to Talk:Dunstable and Whipsnade Downs and replied there. I think that will be more useful for future editors who want to find any previous discussions about the article. JonH (talk) 18:41, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice
[edit]Hi,
As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.
We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.
You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.
We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

[edit]No content in Category:Non-article Bedfordshire articles
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Non-article Bedfordshire articles, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Non-article Bedfordshire articles has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Non-article Bedfordshire articles, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. [edit]Hello, Starrycupz, this message is being sent to inform you that, due to over three monts editing inactivity on WikiProject Bedfordshire, your username has been moved to an 'inactive participant'. The article David Roper has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- A search for references failed to find significant coverage in reliable sources to comply with notability requirements. This included web searches for news coverage, books, and journals, which can be seen from the following links:
David Roper – news, books, scholar
Consequently, this article is about a a British actor that appears to lack sufficient notability.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Gh87 (talk) 06:04, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
